The second UNESCO ITALIAN YOUTH FORUM, organized by UNESCO Giovani, the largest youth reality in the UNESCO world, ended on Sunday April 7th, this year dedicated to the relationship between science and the environment. How important is scientific and technological research to save the planet? This is the theme addressed in Trieste with the President of UNESCO Italy Franco Bernabè, with Undersecretary Vincenzo Spadafora, and with the numerous experts who took part in the work during the three days of the initiative. UNESCO will dedicate the decade 2021-2030 to the great theme of the oceans, the heart of environmental protection.
“We are really proud to have made the city of Trieste and its excellence known – says Marina Coricciati, representative of the FVG section of the Italian Youth for UNESCO Association – it was an interesting three-day exchange of knowledge and construction of new actions for the future, through an increasingly central and crucial role of the young people of our country ». “I therefore wish – continues Coricciati – to thank all the UNESCO Giovani members, and in particular the FVG group for the work done and the commitment that has been put in place. Now that the Forum has ended we start immediately to think about new activities and to continue the precious relationships with all the local actors who have contributed to making this forum so special ».
As part of the Forum, the new president of Unesco Giovani, Antonio Libonati, was appointed, who succeeds the founder Paolo Petrocelli.
«UNESCO Giovani has launched, next to the great # UNITE4HERITAGE campaign of Unesco Mondo, the one named # UNITE4EARTH – says Libonati – because by young Italians it wants to leave a great message of awareness and information so that world governments do what they need to save our earth and our seas. But the goal of the young Italians for UNESCO – the new president continues – is to relaunch the Italian idea of the “Green Helmets”, that is to say a network of skills able to defend and support the green areas of the planet . We are the last generation that can be useful to do something to save the planet. We will not pull back”.
From Trieste the witness now passes to Parma, which in 2020 will also be the Italian Capital of Culture and will host the next Italian Youth Forum of the Association. At the end of the forum, in fact, all the Regions voted between Florence and Parma, the two cities proposed by the respective regional committees and won the victory was the Ducal city, which was already awarded in 2015 by UNESCO as the Creative City of Gastronomy.
“We are very happy and we welcome the baton from Trieste, thus gaining the trust of all the Regional Committees that decided to bring the next Forum to our Region – concludes Federico Ferrari, regional representative of Emilia-Romagna – We have a year to repay this trust by organizing an event that can be attractive to the whole territory and bring to know all the excellences of the city to the almost 400 members of the Association. Already in the coming days we will meet the Municipal Administration and the coordination of Parma 2020 to start together a path that already has excellent bases on which to develop”.
